CEUs Info Assured April 14th: Musk Impersonator, Block Chain Wine, Briti...

School principal resigns after paying $100,000 to Elon Musk impersonator.
The principal of a Florida science and technology charter school has resigned after allegedly writing a $100,000 check to an Elon Musk impersonator using school funds. Dr. Jan McGee, listed as a founding board member of Burns Science and Technology Charter in Oak Hill, Florida, told the school’s board of directors that she had been fooled by the fake Musk after being “groomed” (in her words) for months. McGee reportedly cut a $100,000 check to a person she believed was an associate of Musk’s to kickstart additional investments of up to $6 million. Because McGee could only write checks up to $50,000, the school’s business manager noticed and prevented the check from being processed. According to WESH Orlando, McGee had wanted to get Musk involved in funding the school for years, and someone appears to have picked up her ambition. Others testified at the meeting that staff warned McGee that she was being scammed. Minutes from a March 9 meeting of the Burns Sci-Tech Charter School Board indicate that McGee’s actions were already being reviewed at the time, with one board member requesting a performance review of McGee at the next meeting—the one at which she resigned.

Microsoft Brings Bing Image Creator, More to Microsoft Edge

Microsoft has integrated the Bing AI-powered Image Creator feature into its Edge web browser. Bing Image Creator is also available on the web via the Bing chatbot website or at bing.com/create. The feature is based on OpenAI’s DALL-E. Drop is a new icon in the Edge sidebar that lets you save images from the web using drag-and-drop. The new image editor lets you edit web images without downloading them first and using an external application. You can save each image directly from the Drop pane to your PC or another device.

UK's offensive hacking unit takes on military opponents and terrorist.

The UK’s newly created offensive hacking unit, the National Cyber Force (NCF), has said it is engaged daily in operations to disrupt terrorist groups, distributors of child sexual abuse material, and military opponents of the UK. The NCF is a joint operation between the GCHQ spy agency and the Ministry of Defense. It is the first time Britain’s cyber-attack capabilities have been grouped into one acknowledged unit. Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea are all considered to promote hacker groups that aim to steal political and trade secrets online or engage in ransomware extortion attacks, where cybercriminals take control of a company’s systems and demand substantial payments to restore them.

Uber driver info stolen yet again: This time from law firm

Uber has had more internal data stolen from a third party that suffered a security breach. This time, the personal information of the app’s drivers was swiped by miscreants from the IT systems of law firm Genova Burns. As a result of that probe, the attorneys alerted law enforcement, changed all system passwords, and promised to take “additional steps to improve security and better help protect against similar incidents in the future.” Affected individuals get 12 months of free identity monitoring services to compensate for their stolen data, which could be used for identity theft or sold on cybercrime forums.

Democratizing Wine Investment: AI and Blockchain in Wine Authentication and Valuation

Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology are poised to democratize wine investment by improving authentication and valuation. Wine investment has traditionally been considered an exclusive domain, reserved for a select few with deep pockets. However, recent advancements in AI and blockchain technology are poised to democratize wine investment by improving authentication and valuation. Blockchain technology can benefit the wine industry by solving issues with authenticity, credibility, and transparency. Every entity involved in the production, distribution, and sale of wine will be recorded as a block in the chain and made visible to all parties involved. Producers could track wine shipments across every step, through brokers/négociants, importers, wholesalers, distributors, retailers, and auction houses, via a transparent, decentralized, and permanent record to verify the authenticity and reduce time, costs, labor, and waste across the supply chain.
